SUNDAY 31 January
REGISTRATION WITH THE WALK LEADER IS ESSENTIAL. PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW.
RATED - Hard
Although this should be a relatively flat walk (except for track walk home from Crystal Creek Falls) expect off track walking, slippery rocks, creek crossings/creek walking, thick rainforest etc.
DESCRIPTION
A major part of this adventure is off-track rainforest and creek walking down Double Barrel Creek to Blue Lagoon then Crystal Creek Falls.
This is an explorative walk. We'll start on track from the dam (1hr). From there we'll head to the headwaters of Double Barrel Creek, then walk down the creek - either along side in rainforest, or in the creek itself (probably both). On reaching Crystal Creek junction, it'll be a short walk downstream to Blue Lagoon for a swim. After that, it's a short stroll through rainforest and cascades to Crystal Creek Falls. Heading home will be back on track for the 1.5 hr walk uphill back to the dam. Along the way there may be tangled vines to negotiate - love the rainforest!
WHAT TO BRING
- Water: minimum 2L (refill from the creek or bring 4L - see below**). Electrolytes.
- Clothing: Long sleeves and pants/gaiters recommended. As this walk if off track the likelihood if getting scratched etc is high. Many members also wear fingerless gloves.
- Enclosed footwear that will get wet. Leather boots not recommended.
- Food for the day
- Hat, sunscreen and insect repellent
- Usual bushwalking gear
- Personal first aid kit including a compression bandage and blister kit is recommended.
- Walking poles (optional). These can provide assistance with creek crossing and creek walking (ie for balance) or on track but can be a hinderance when walking off track.
** Water: if you are uncomfortable using creek water for drinking water refill (after treating suitably), then carry 4 lt min for the day, or more to suit your requirements. Note that the club recommends that any natural water sources must be suitably treated before consumption.
COST
Non members = $5 walk fee for insurance
