Walk Description:
The standard Terraces walk, start on track, then major part is off track bushwalking and rockhopping. Some cliff / ledges, and steep hills, loose surfaces, to climb / scramble. More information at
https://wanderstories.space/the-terraces/The challenge this time of year is seepage and slippery rocks. Usually we donβt go this time of year as conditions are not ideal (we have done it in the past this time of year with varying degrees of success or not). However, if we can get into the middle of the Terraces, the waterfalls are even more spectacular this time of year.
If conditions are not suitable we have options, which may include the Rockslides area, and explore down St Margarets Creek to Black Rock area and further downstream. This creek area is scenic, nice pools and cascades, and worth exploring. We will see what weather and conditions are like on the day.
Full day walk. Estimate back at the cars around 4 to 5 pm.
What to bring - Food / snacks for the day, water 2 lt minimum (refill from creeks or carry 4 lt water), electrolytes, insect repellent (leeches, mozzies), hat, sunscreen, personal first aid kit (basic). Some members also wear fingerless gloves. Hiking poles are good on track walks but not so good in bushbashing - but are good if in the creek and for creek crossings - balance assist. If you are uncomfortable using creek water for drinking water refill (after treating suitably), then carry 4 lt min for the day, or more to suit your requirements. Note that the club recommends that any natural water sources must be suitably treated before consumption.
Clothing- as it off-track bushwalking and exploring, long sleeve clothing or gaiters is recommended. Otherwise you may have cuts/scratches on exposed skin at the end of the day.
Footwear - sturdy shoes that provide decent grip on slippery rocks are suitable.
Must be over 18yrs old to participate.
