Wilfred is leading a two-night Easter overnighter to one of North Queensland’s classic coastal wilderness routes. The plan is to walk from Cape Cleveland out to Paradise Beach on Friday, camping near the freshwater creek. On Saturday, the group will traverse from Paradise Beach up to the saddle, across to Long Beach (Bedwell Bay), returning via Castle Rock for expansive views over the rugged coastline before heading back to camp. Sunday will be the walk out the same way we came in.
This is a remote, self-sufficient coastal bushwalk through semi-evergreen rainforest, coastal forest and exposed beach sections. Expect off-track navigation, uneven terrain, sand walking and warm conditions. Participants should be comfortable carrying an overnight pack and walking for several hours each day.
Water is available at the Paradise Beach creek, so you will only need to carry sufficient water for each day’s walking. All other food, camping gear and essentials must be carried in.
This is a beautiful and committing Easter adventure - remote beaches, granite headlands, star-filled skies and the kind of coastline most people in Townsville never see. Expressions of interest are now open.
Townsville Bushwalking Club members: Free
Visitors: $5 per walk. After completing three club walks, you are welcome to join as a member.
