This Sunday we will go faraway in time to Echo Beach rather I mean Creek. Luen will lead us on yet another creek based adventure. If it is anything like the Cloudy/Ethel adventure we will experience beautiful forest country; very attractive creek scenery; be in the creek as part of the scenery enjoying the anti-inflammatory properties of the creek (i.e. over knee deep in water). There will no doubt be parts where there will be out of creek off track walking and need to divide a way for ourselves via wait-a-while.
The plan is very loose: we’ll meet in Paluma and drove to the Dam road and park at the start of the K-Track, walk to the headwaters of Echo Creek and follow the creek downstream. As indicated earlier you will most likely get your feet wet, so choose your footwear wisely. You don’t want to wear anything that will slip when wet. We will be in and out of the creek, finding the best route possible. As always there will be rainforest plants involved so be prepared to divide a way through it (seceteurs). We’ll stop for morning tea, lunch and hopefully afternoon tea. Once we’ve had enough of the creek we’ll rejoin the K-track and follow it back to the cars. We’ll be back at the cars between 3 and 5 pm.
Bring your hat, sunscreen, insect repellent & shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. Long sleeved shirts are recommended to protect yourself from scratches and the sun. Some people wear long pants, others shorts with gaiters: the choice is yours.
First aid kit, snake bandage, water 2 – 3 L. Refill from the creek, but it is also an idea to bring water purification tablets. If you’re not happy with drinking creek water – treated or not - bring 4 L for the day. Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea. Other snacks. Gifts and other tributes for walk leader and any of the committee members who happen to be on the walk. Camera, togs & towel. Change of clothes for the journey home is a good idea. Even if not car pooling you could be soaked and getting into clean dry clothes is really nice at the end of a walk.
It is wise to bring a dry bag to put store the gear you’ll take on the walk that you do not want to get wet.
Visitors must pay a $5 visitor fee and sign an acknowledgement of risk form. You must be over 18 to participate.
