[email protected]We are heading to Dick Creek, a Stoney Creek tributary tucked into the Mt Stuart foothills near Roseneath. This one is a classic wet-season wander - an intermittent stream that comes alive after rain, with cascades, rock slabs and clear pools that only show their best side when North Queensland turns the taps on.
This is a Grade 4 walk suitable for beginners who are reasonably fit and comfortable on uneven ground. Expect rock hopping, creek crossings, some light scrambling and sections of off-track navigation. Distance and duration will depend slightly on conditions, but allow around 4 hours, including breaks and exploring.
The creek is intermittent, so flow will depend on rainfall. It should be running well with the recent rain we've had. We will explore upstream to a series of small waterfalls and pools. If it is lower, it is still a beautiful granite-lined creek system framed by open woodland and Mt Stuart’s rocky slopes.
Meeting details will be sent to those who RSVP.
Bring:
- At least 2 L of water
- Morning tea and lunch
- Sturdy footwear with good grip (expect wet rock)
- Hat and sun protection
- Swimmers and small towel if you would like a dip
- Dry bag for valuables (optional)
This is a relaxed but adventurous morning in one of Townsville’s underrated creek systems. A good introduction to off-track walking without committing to a full expedition.
