REGISTRATION WITH THE WALK LEADER IS ESSENTIAL
WHEN: Saturday 19th – Full day
WALK SUMMARY: this is one of our easier walks suitable for those new to bushwalking, or just wanting an easier day. You still need reasonable bushwalking fitness especially for the walk back to the Dam carpark which is the hardest part. It is still a great bushwalk with good highlights.
This walk will be a rainforest track walk from Paluma dam to Crystal Creek falls (top) via Rock Garden. Whilst a track walk, it is a rough rainforest track with tree roots, uneven footing, and rocks at times, and a few steep bits. The reward is a wonderful rainforest walk, a lookout, the rock garden, and the superb Crystal Creek Falls top section. And a great swimming hole, one of the best. We may even bush bash a short way up to Blue Lagoon.
Note that the walk from the waterfall back to the dam is the hardest part, uphill slog for 1.5 hrs (about 5 km), ascending over 200 mr (it feels like more than 200 mr ascent though). And the track is rough and uneven in several places.
You will also learn about the extensive marked track system in Paluma / Mt Spec region (over 100 km of marked walking tracks), the track markers, and other good info on track walks in the area
