Leader - Wilfred Karnoll
Rated - Off-track, remote. Difficulty level - 5.
This is a vertical walk with rock scrambling across sheer rock faces vertically.
If you are scared of heights - this walk is not for you. This is an exposed walk in places.
Duration - this will be a 6-8 hour day depending on the group.
The walk itself begins on a dirt road that will take us to the rocky outcrops known by the rock climbers as the pinnacles. From there we will follow a reasonably well defined (in some places ill-defined) track that takes us past other beautiful rock faces and then eventually out to the rear of Frederick's Peak. We climb up a steep gully that is known to contain stinging trees. Be warned - they do bite. At the top of the gully we turn right and make our way carefully to the top. There are spectacular views of Townsville, the Dam and Harvey's Range, as well as the Islands on a clear day.
Bring a jacket as it could well be windy and cold at the top. We'll enjoy lunch there and make our way back via the way we came.
