Wallaman / Herbert River Area
Leader: Luen
This off-track adventure is rated very hard (5), and a good level of fitness is essential. The hike will take us through some rugged terrain, including rock hopping, wet and slippery rocks, and uneven ground. Since we'll be camping overnight, a QPWS camping permit is required.
We’ll start with a couple of kilometres along a track before ascending a ridgeline, eventually descending into a creek to visit a remote waterfall where we'll set up camp. As flat ground is unlikely, hammock camping is recommended – even a budget hammock from Bunnings will do.
Total distance: approximately 13km on day one, with a weekend total of around 25km. On the return, we’ll either take the same route or rock hop down the creek back to the track and out to the cars. Please carry enough water for the ascent, as it will be a full day of hiking on both days. Day one is more challenging, starting at an elevation of 60m and climbing up to 300m.
Luen will email the GPX route and meeting details to those who have registered closer to the event.
Gear Notes:
Hammock (recommended for camping)
Secateurs (for cutting through vines and vegetation)
