About this event

Echo Creek and K Traverse
When: Sunday 17 May 2026
Location: Paluma Range National Park
Leader: Cherry
Grade: 4 (creek walking, off-track sections, and wet feet likely)
RSVP: [email protected]

Cherry will be leading a day trip into Echo Creek and the K Traverse area in Paluma Range National Park - a lush rainforest creek adventure with easy access, beautiful granite cascades, clear pools, and plenty of classic North Queensland scenery.

The plan is to walk in via the old K Traverse logging road, drop into the headwaters of Echo Creek, and then follow the creek downstream for much of the day before rejoining the K Track and returning to the cars. Expect a mix of creek walking, rock hopping, sandy sections, shallow pools, and some off-track movement through dense vegetation in places. Wet feet are very likely and part of the fun.

Echo Creek is a great introductory creek-style walk for people comfortable with uneven terrain and basic off-track travel. Along the way, the landscape changes from lush fern-filled rainforest to more open bushland, with small cascades, granite slabs, and signs of the area's old logging history adding to the experience.

This is not a fast-paced mission, but it is an adventurous day out. Be prepared for slippery rocks, scratched shins, route finding, and a full day in beautiful country.

Please note: we no longer require a permit to travel up the Paluma Range Road. However, we still require the lead escort vehicle, which runs hourly. Meeting details and timing will therefore be provided once you RSVP directly to Cherry.
