Option 2: SATURDAY 15/9 - SUNDAY 16/9
REGISTRATION IS ESSENTIAL. PLEASE READ THE DETAILS BELOW. FULL WALK DETAILS ARE AVAILABLE ON ENQUIRY OR REGISTRATION - please see below.
RATED: Hard
The walk will be entirely offtrack. It is a long hot walk with some steep climbs, all cross country, long grass, uneven footings. You will need good fitness and be known to the walk leader.
THE PLAN:
Our plan is to walk out to Cape Cleveland (groups departing both Friday 14/8 and Saturday 15/8) for the weekend, returning Sunday 16/8 via a different route.
We'll walk out to the cape carrying only our day packs. Enroute we'll have great views over the Cape, Townsville and Maggie Is. If we're lucky we may even spot a whale!
Participants are required to provide all their equipment and be self sufficient. Camping gear and food will be transported to the Cape by boat (see below for cost). You must be available to drop off your gear on Thursday afternoon and pick up on Monday afternoon.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Camping gear - you must be self sufficient
- Water: you will need water for full day eg minimum 5L. There is no resupply during the day. Water is available at the Cape.
- Clothing: there is a lot of long grass and scrub so full long sleeve clothing is recommended. Many members also wear fingerless gloves. Warm clothing for night time and recommended to be carried during the day.
- Enclosed footwear
- Food for the days
- Hat, sunscreen and insect repellent
- Usual bushwalking gear
- Personal first aid kit including a compression bandage and blister kit is recommended.
- Waterproofing of gear going on the boat is highly recommended
COST
