Mt Cook Summit
Magnetic Island NP

Leader: Ian Wallace
Rated: Hard - rough terrain, Steep boulder climbs.

Meeting: Meeting location and details will be emailed . Start time will be at 6:15 am.

Walk Description:
Beginning at the ferry terminal in Nelly Bay, we will walk up to Mount Cook, the highest mountain on Magnetic Island, and do some exploring in the area of the adjacent peaks.
After that we will walk back down, hopefully via a different route, to the Nelly Bay ferry.
At the latest, we will catch the 6:35pm ferry, hopefully earlier.
The group leader’s decision on allowing you on the walk is final. If they believe that you are unfit or unable to do a walk or be part of the group, you will need to respect that decision.

Distances and elevations:
The total distance is about 12km. We will ascend from sea level to the top of Mt Cook, at 490m, then down again to sea level. Allow for a walk time of about 10 hours.
High levels of fitness and experience are required for this hike. The track is not well-defined, there will be some rock hopping, with sections that will be steep, uneven, hot and exposed.
