Next bushwalk - Sunday 14th March 2021 - Swamp to Birthday
An off-track remote wilderness exploratory adventure.
Continuing our recent theme of off-track wilderness creek-based exploring in the Mt Spec area, this Sunday we try Swamp Creek to Birthday Creek.
Rated - Hard.
Pre-Registration / approval with the walk leader is essential. These walks have been very popular, so register ASAP to reserve a spot.

Meet at 8am Paluma Village Community Centre car park, normal place. Then we drive to Paluma Dam to start the adventure.
This is a remote wilderness creek bushwalk. You may be walking in the water, there will be slippery rocks, uneven footing, slippery tree roots, tangled vines, maybe wait-awhile, all that good fun rainforest adventure. Gotta luv rainforest uh ! The rewards are great scenery, fun adventure, good laughs, a sense of achievement, and great company. Starting at the Paluma Dam, bushwalk across to one of the peaks in the area (possibly Mt Benham).
Then down the ridge, and down Swamp Creek (the overflow of the dam).
At the junction, walk upstream of Birthday Creek and back to Paluma Dam Road near Birthday Creek Falls.
Full day hike, anticipate back at the cars around 4 to 5 pm.
Wear appropriate footwear, i.e., enclosed sturdy shoes that grip on slippery rocks.
Drinking water - carry 2 lt, refill from creeks as required (but suitably treat/filter any water refills from natural sources, or carry 4 to 5 lt). The club also recommends use of electrolytes during the day.
Bring food and snacks to suits your energy needs for full day bushwalking.
Bushwalkers should bring their own personal (minimal) first aid kit, headtorch, and whistle. Luen will also have his personal minimal first aid kit. The club does not provide a group first aid kit.
Fees: non-members $5
Clothing- as it off-track bushwalking, long sleeve clothing or gaiters is recommended. Otherwise you may have cuts/scratches on exposed skin at the end of the day.
Must be over 18yrs to participate.
Now you might think we will be running out of wilderness creeks to explore around Mt Spec - well, we won't, there are many more unique ideas we have in plans.
