Who is Leading - Cherry Judge
Rate - Medium - on trial mostly, with a few creek crossings. This is not a walk for absolute beginners.
Consider the distance involved in your decision making. The pace will be moderate and steady, so we can cover the distance within the designated time-frame and enjoy our stops at the points of interest mentioned above.
Description
Beginning at the Paluma Dam campground, we’ll head north along the dam wall and then through the rainforest to the Diorite Falls. We’ll spend some time there, so there will be an opportunity for a swim and a look around – I reckon it should be looking pretty good after recent rainfall. After that we’ll take a different trail back to the Paluma Dam campground, basically we'll be doing an extended clockwise circuit around the dam.
What to expect:
-Creek crossings and rock hopping
-The terrain is undulating with some steep sections
-We make a gradual descent to Diorite Falls, and the ascent on the return journey involves a lot of uphill including one section which is around 1km of constant uphill.
Approximate:
-Distance: 18-20kms
-Duration: 6-7 hours including stops & breaks
Meeting Point -
The dirt carpark next to Ampol Yabulu (Ingham direction) at 6:00am – From here we’ll carpool to the start point of the hike at the Paluma Dam.
Or Paluma Dam at 7:15 ish
