Hidden Valley explore
Leader Luen Warneke
Date 18th-20th Apr 2025
Join us for a memorable bushwalking club adventure over the Easter break (18–20 April 2025) exploring the fascinating history and natural beauty of the Hidden Valley and Kangaroo Hills areas in North Queensland.
Set up camp in a serene, sandy creek location where water is readily available for swimming and relaxation. Our base will serve as the ideal starting point for daily short hikes to historical mining sites and remnants of once-thriving townships. Wander through landscapes dotted with historic artefacts, old machinery, and mining infrastructure, providing a vivid insight into Queensland’s rich mining past.
Each day offers a leisurely walk to different points of interest. Visit old mine shafts, tunnels, and discover colourful copper-bearing rocks, historic vehicles, and machinery. Experience a slice of history first-hand and gain a deeper understanding of the region’s early mining days.
We may also venture to explore nearby areas, including picturesque Wallaroo Gorge and Running River Gorge. These properties offer opportunities for exploration, featuring mini-gorges, beautiful creeks, waterfalls, and scenic bushland. Expect to immerse yourself in the tranquility of these secluded and historically significant locations.
Note: The hikes are rated easy to moderate. All hikes are short, day-based excursions, allowing ample time to relax at the campsite. Prior permissions for accessing private properties have been organised for the group.
RSVP early to secure your spot for a weekend filled with adventure, history, and nature. Please ensure you have all camping essentials, including sufficient food, water, and camping gear.
