Overview:
This is an off-track, exploratory-style bushwalk following the tributary of Antill Plains Creek - a rugged and rewarding slice of Bowling Green Bay National Park. Think granite boulders, creeklines, and pristine swim spots.
It’s a choose-your-own-adventure kind of day: we’ll head upstream, rock-hop our way toward one or more waterfalls, and cool off in one of the stunning swimming holes along the way.
We’re not heading to Joy’s Cliff this time, but if the group is fast and we make good time, this might be an option. Otherwise, that’s an epic for another day. This walk is all about tuning into the terrain, reading the group, and making decisions as we go. If the going is slow or the vibe is chill, we’ll stop at the first major cascade for a well-earned swim and return the same way. If we’re all bounding along like gazelles, we might continue further upstream or even take a return route via the adjacent ridge or neighbouring creek.
Important Notes:
This walk is weather dependent – wet rocks = high slip risk = alternate plan
Solid bushwalking fitness and confidence on uneven terrain are essential
Bring 3-4 L water, hat, snacks/lunch, first aid kit, and swimmers/towel. You can fill up at creeks, however the club advises the use of water purification tablets.
Grippy footwear is a must – boots or trail shoes with good tread. You are likely to get wet feet, so be prepared. We will not be stopping to remove and re-wear our boots.
This is a remote, unmarked walk – come prepared for a full day out
