About this event

SUNDAY 29 NOVEMBER. Please note we have had to change the walk from Mt Spec to somewhere away from Paluma due to road closure on the weekend on Mt Spec Rd.

REGISTRATION WITH THE WALK LEADER IS ESSENTIAL - please see details below.

WALK DESCRIPTION
Giant Trees Walk - on the Bambaroo Track. We will be climbing up from Bruce Hwy to a higher elevation on Paluma range. The start is a very hot and very steep 1 hr road walk climb and then we reach the rainforest, shade and the giant trees area. The giant strangler fig trees and buttress trees are amazing. After having a look at the many trees we will keep climbing up the range on a forest track. The turn around point will be decided on the day based on the group and we will return via the same route. The plan is to have an early start to beat some of the heat for the steep road walk in first hour.

Type of walk – Very steep track walk up the range - 4 hrs climbing up the range. Tracks have uneven footing including tree roots and rocks. We will walk out and back via the same route. There is no water resupply en route (there is a creek water point we use near the top of the range, but cannot guarantee water this time of year there). Afternoon is all downhill (apart from one bump)!

RATED – Hard to the elevation gained.

COST – non-members $5 fee.

WHAT TO BRING
- Carry drinking water for the walk (carry water for the day 4 lt).
- Lunch, snacks / energy food
- Electrolytes (recommended)
- Sun protection - hat, sunscreen
- Insect repellent

MEETING POINT – Meet at 0700 at Frosty Mango.

Estimated Completion – back at cars by 5:00 pm (in time for have ice creams at Frosty Mango, a great reward).

Must be over 18yrs to participate.

REGISTRATION
The walk leader is Keith.
Please contact Keith directly if you have his details or email the club at [email protected] and we'll get back to you asap.

Please note:
To protect the privacy of club officials, walk leaders, property owners or sensitive areas, contact details and some locations won't be published on Facebook or website. Please contact the club via email and we will respond ASAP.

On some activities, walker numbers may be limited to promote the safety and enjoyment of all, due to location size and ability to socially distance or to reduce our environmental impact at some locations.

Water refill - if you don't like creek refills, then you need to carry water for the day, at least 4 lt, or more to suit your own requirements. The Club recommends that any creek water refills are suitably treated / filtered before consumption. Drinking creek water is at your own risk and responsibility.

COVID-19
Please do not attend if you are unwell, have symptoms or have been ordered to quarantine or isolate. Social distancing and self managed hygiene practices are strongly encouraged, and the club will not be organising car pooling opportunities at present. The club is cognisant of the QORF COVID SAFE PLAN for Outdoor Recreation Providers. On some walks, as noted above, numbers may be limited.

We hope to see you on a walk soon.
