About this event

Saturday 8 August 2026
Location: Pallarenda Park, Townsville - open to suggestions
Leader: Brent C
Grade: Social / skills session
RSVP: [email protected]

This practical show-and-tell session, led by Brent, is a chance to learn more about hiking, bushwalking, overnight gear, camping setups, and how people prepare for different types of trips. We will meet at Pallarenda Park, where there is enough space to lay out gear, compare packs, and set up a few tents and shelter systems.

Experienced members will bring along their hiking and camping gear and talk through what they carry, why they carry it, and how they pack for day walks, overnight walks, multi-day trips, remote bushwalks, and lightweight or ultralight adventures. We will cover topics such as packs, shelters, sleeping systems, cooking gear, water, clothing, navigation, safety items, food, pack weight, and practical tips for North Queensland conditions.

This is not a formal walk, but a relaxed and useful morning for anyone wanting to improve their bushwalking skills, reduce pack weight, tips and tricks, prepare for overnight trips, or simply see how others do things. It will also be a great opportunity to ask questions, compare gear, and learn from other walkers' experiences.

New members, visitors, beginner bushwalkers, and experienced hikers are all welcome. Even if you have been hiking for years, there is always something new to learn.

Wilfred, Cherry and other members will be there showcasing their gear.

What to bring:
Bring your own hiking or camping gear if you would like advice or want to share what works for you. You may also like to bring a chair, hat, water, snacks, sunscreen, and a notebook. Tents, packs, sleeping mats, stoves, quilts, and other gear are welcome for demonstration.
