Difficulty Level: Intermediate. On and Off-track. Moderate (AWTGS Grade 3)
Trail Description: really overgrown, uneven underfoot, steep, some clambering over boulders. Likely to go off track every now and again and needing to retrace steps - forewarned is forearmed.
Distance: Approx. 8 km return
Elevation Gain: 360 m
Duration: Approx. 4-5 hours
Description:
Join us for a picturesque hike to the summit of the East Sister Mountain (442 m), located just south of Townsville near Elliot Springs. The route follows an old, eroded road which, although generally easy-going, may have slippery sections due to loose topsoil, particularly on steeper sections. Expect to encounter areas of lantana and spear grasses along the track.
The walk begins at a gated private property (permission obtained), covering approximately 4 km from the gate to the summit. Once at the top, you'll be rewarded with stunning views over rolling countryside, the Coral Sea, and Mount Elliot. Impressive cliffs add to the scenic beauty and provide excellent photo opportunities.
Participants should come prepared with appropriate footwear, sun protection, plenty of water, and snacks.
