We are heading to Dick Creek, a Stoney Creek tributary tucked into the Mt Stuart foothills near Roseneath. This one is a classic wet-season wander - an intermittent stream that comes alive after rain, with cascades, rock slabs and clear pools that only show their best side when North Queensland turns the taps on.

Wilfred's regular Tuesday Mt Stuart road walk is now open to club members who want a solid pre-dawn fitness hit. We will meet at 4:45 am and walk the bitumen road all the way to the 584 m summit and back, covering approximately 15 km return. This is a steady uphill grind followed by a controlled descent - ideal for building endurance and leg strength.

Cherry will be leading a relaxed but adventurous day out to the top of Jourama Falls, with a swim and picnic as the main focus. The plan is to walk in via the lookout track, tackle the steady ~10-minute climb from the lookout, and then another ~50 min to the top of the falls. It is a steep and often hot ascent, so a reasonable level of fitness and comfort on hills is important.

Cherry will be leading a scenic wander through Paluma Range National Park to Crystal Creek via Torsten’s Rock Garden, with the option to continue upstream towards the Blue Lagoon and possibly the Three Lagoons if conditions and time allow. This is a beautiful rainforest and granite creek system, combining formed track walking with off-track creek navigation. Expect around 12 km return and allow most of the day, with time for swims and exploring.

This walk is being run specifically as a leaders-only training day, following Cherry’s suggestion to build confidence and capacity within the club. The aim is simple - create more walk leaders. This is not an exploratory epic, but a structured off-track day focused on decision-making, navigation, pacing, risk assessment and group management.

Wilfred is leading a two-night Easter overnighter to one of North Queensland’s classic coastal wilderness routes. The plan is to walk from Cape Cleveland out to Paradise Beach on Friday, camping near the freshwater creek. On Saturday, the group will traverse from Paradise Beach up to the saddle with Long Beach (Bedwell Bay) and then return via Castle Rock for expansive views over the rugged coastline before heading back to camp. Sunday will be the walk out the same way we came in.

We are heading back into the rainforest for a full-day off-track creek adventure linking Little Birthday Creek to Big Birthday Creek in the Mt Spec area. This is a remote wilderness bushwalk with sustained creek walking, rock hopping, slippery granite, tangled vines and the usual North Queensland surprises underfoot. Expect to be in and out of the water for much of the day.
